I happen to be a collector of HO slot cars and know quite a bit about them. The cars for this set are very poorly assembled. This is the first time I ever got a slot car with the front contact brushes lacking the spring under them so the car would not move without a spring being inserted under the contact brush. Given the way the car is built, its almost impossible to fix this problem, even with spare parts. The cars are in design the old TYCO X2 design, but these run much worse than any TYCO or Mattel car of this design I ever got. I ran the car on a Tomy track with a lot more power than the battery pack that came with the set and the car still ran slow and did not have enough power to over come the magnets attraction to the track. After she saw Cars 2 and looked foward to racing lighting mcqueen, I had a very disappointed 4 year old when the car ran so poorly she lost intrest in trying to drive it and went back to spme proper cars. .

I truely wish there was a way to fix this set as my son really wants to play with it but cant. After reading the reviews I wish I had read them before his grandma bought it for him at my recommendation. The collector that posted here me be on to something. After some play the cars will not go around the track. I am guessing because there are no springs to make the copper bars on the cars keep electrical connection to the track. I guess you could try to super glue small springs to the body inside the copper bars. OR buy better quality cars.... It looks cool sitting there on the floor collecting dust. Perhaps the track peices are compatible with other tracks so it wont be a total waste if santa gets him something from a DIFFERENT company. To bad Cars and Disney didnt thoroughly test this product. We bought this out of an actual Disney store in our local high end mall. My son is very dissapointed. DO NOT BUY THIS IT IS A WASTE OF MONEY.....
